St Luke Religious Education Office

To visit the Religious Education Office, come to the gray double doors on Lake Street at the southeast corner of the school building and ring the doorbell.

If no one answers, you may drop off any religious education forms and fees at the St. Luke Parish Rectory, 528 Lathrop Avenue (first building north of the church).

Sacrament Preparation

Sacramental preparation is an on-going approach to life with Jesus Christ and all the members of the Catholic Christian community. Our program is designed to supplement the instruction provided for children within their families. Opportunities for adults to deepen their own understanding of the sacraments will be provided through parent meetings prior to the reception of Penance and Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation.

Catechetical Requirements

It is important that children have a firm foundation and understanding of their faith before receiving the sacraments. This foundation actually begins the year before the reception of First Eucharist or Confirmation.

Archdiocesan policy requires that children preparing for Reconciliation and Eucharist must have completed the 1st grade in Religious Education or in a Catholic school to be eligible for the formation program to receive these two sacraments in their 2nd grade year.

Confirmation, likewise, is a two-year process: The 7th grade year is an opportunity for the students to have “Mercy Experiences.” The 8th graders continue to reflect on their mercy experiences and the ways God is calling them to deepen their faith by attending spiritual preparation sessions along with religion classes, before receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Registration will begin in mid-July for returning families. New families are welcome to complete a Parish Registration form along with a Religious Education Registration form later in the month. Please call the Religious Education Office at 708-435-8960 with any questions you may have.
