Penance and Reconciliation: The Sacrament of Healing

Reconciliation involves the discovery of love. God always forgives.

Determining the age at which a child should begin regular reception of this sacrament is primarily the responsibility of the parents. Children should have opportunities to witness and experience forgiveness from parents, family and friends. In this way, children learn to understand and accept God's loving forgiveness.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation will take place in the 2nd grade. Please note that the Archdiocese of Chicago requires two years of formation before a child receives the sacrament. Therefore, parents should enroll their children in a parochial school or parish religious education program in the 1st grade to meet the basic requirements.

Note: Home Catechesis cannot be done in the 2nd Grade.

The 2019-2020 Registration Packets for the Religious Education Program can be downloaded from the links below. Please note that there are two separate packets this year: one for families who are enrolling for the first time and the other for those returning from last year.

The forms are in Adobe Acrobat format. You can print the forms at home, fill them out by hand, and mail them or drop them off to us. Or you can save the form to your computer, fill out the forms using the Acrobat program or Acrobat Reader, and print them out or email them back to us. (NOTE: you must download the form to your computer first if you plan to type in the forms on your computer. By opening it in the Acrobat program, the fillable spaces will appear and you can save your copy with all your information.)
