Penance and Reconciliation
The Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation — also referred to as Confession — is the opportunity for individuals to respond to God's ongoing invitation to conversion in one's community of faith. Available after morning Masses on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and by appointment with one of the priests in the rectory. Call 708-435-8912 to schedule a time.
Preparation for First Reconciliation
Determining the age at which a child should begin regular reception of this sacrament is primarily the responsibility of the parents. The requirement for reception of this sacrament is that the child understands what it means to commit grave or mortal sin, and what it means to be forgiven.
In the St. Luke Religious Education Program, preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation ordinarily will take place when the child is in the second grade. The Archdiocese of Chicago requires two years of formation for the sacrament. Formal preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation takes place as a part of the Religious Education Program, and one prior year of religious education is required. The Sacrament is usually celebrated with those children who have been preparing on the first two Saturdays in December
