A Word about Stewardship

 

 

 

We are all busy.  Every day we struggle to allocate our time.  In meeting this challengeare not alone.   But we recall that Jesus set our priorities:

 

You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the greatest and the first commandment.

 

The second resembles it; You must love your neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.

Our heartstrings are pulled toward becoming involved in one or more of the many ministries available at St. Luke.  We feel the urge to become involved, and we suspect, based on past experience, that our relationship with God and our neighbors will be enriched if we take the leap.  When we are honest with ourselves, we know that we should listen to our inner voice, calling us to become involved.

 

But, at times, some of us hesitate, and try to silence our inner voice with honest rationalizations, reminding ourselves of all that we have going on in our busy lives.  Soon, we cannot hear our inner voice any longer, or it has become very faint.  The months pass and a year goes by.  Once in a while, perhaps more often, we feel the pangs of regret, but almost simultaneously we throw yet another blanket of rationalization on our inner voice, and it is muffled again.

 

Perhaps this time we will choose to follow our inner voice -- the voice of God, reminding us that by jumping in, taking the risk, submitting to the uncertain, we can feel the excitement of faith that has brought us to this point in the first place, and surely will carry us home.
