The Bereavement Ministry is notified when there is a death in the parish community. The family of the deceased is called immediately and a time for a visit arranged. The Bereavement Minister extends the condolences of the parish and gives the family a packet of materials designed to help family and friends plan a funeral liturgy that will be a source of comfort and strength. Sometimes the family requests that the Bereavement Minister be part of that planning. It may be that the family has special needs for which assistance is arranged.
Each year on All Souls' Day a special liturgy is held remembering those from the St. Luke community who died in the previous year. The families of the deceased are invited to participate in this special Mass. Bereavement Ministers are present and give any assistance needed.
We grieve with all the bereaved in their loss. Each life is precious; each death a sorrow. The Bereavement Ministry exists to express that grief in a personal way and to offer practical help.
