All of our classes depend largely upon volunteers to teach the classes and on the attendance of the children after the classes start. Training is available and necessary for all catechists, new and returning, and that training will be provided. The work of catechists is vital to preserving our Catholic legacy, and is a rewarding ministry. There is no better way to instill the faith in your children than by sharing in their religious education as a catechist. Catechists (teachers of religion) and adult assistants are always needed.

Our Catechists take special care to teach our children and the memories of the lessons are what keep our children interested in learning more about their Catholic faith and how special they are to God. These things are what will carry them through their lifetime. We hope many parents will consider teaching. This program builds upon the foundation that you have given and continue to give your child. If you are interested in being a catechist, please indicate in the space provided and we will call you.
The Religious Education Advisory Board is also seeking members. Please indicate your interest in the space provided on the registration form. The board assists the director in the decision-making process involving the religion program and its participants. Many thanks for supporting the St. Luke Religious Education program.

Goals

We believe that all of life is a learning experience.  Our faith is a very important part of this learning experience.

  • To provide religious formation which is consistent with the basic traditions and teachings of the Roman Catholic Church as reflected in Vatican II, The New Catechism, and The General Directory for Catechesis.
  • To provide the opportunity to experience the rich sacramental life of the church which can nourish and sustain our lives.
  • To actively involve the parents in all aspects of the Religious Education Program.
  • To proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Policies

      Attendance

Regular and prompt attendance is necessary for proper learning.  Each class is important for the continued faith development of your child.

     Absence

If  your child is ill and not able to attend class, PLEASE CALL the Religious Education Office (771-5959) before the class begins.  We are concerned about your child's whereabouts.

When a child is absent, all work must be made up.  If a student is abset more than three times, advancement to the next grade may be in question.

     Discipline

We ask your cooperation in maintaining an efficient and consistent form of disciplne.  The children will be responsible for their own behavior.  They learn that the observance of rules is a safeguaqrd to their liberties and not a curbing of them.  Any student who uses abusive or vulgar language, speaks out of turn or is rude or disruptive in class, will be sent to the office.  The parent or guardian will be notified and the child will be given one more chance to resolve the problem, or the parent will be asked to instruct the child at home.

     Attire

The students should come to class dressed appropriately.  ALL should dress in a manner that speaks of respect for self and for others.  Attire is important to the learning process.

     Attitude

Respect is a necessary quality that should be expressed.  All students are expected to address teachers and other adults by their proper title; i.e. Mr., Mrs., Miss, Father, Sister, etc.  When a student is addressed he/she should respond in a courteous manner, without comments, signs, abusive or vulgar language.

     Prayer

Each student has received a Handbook of Prayers that is appropriate for him/her to know at each grade level.  Parents are expected to help their child learn these prayers by praying at home and at Mass with them.  We will not memorize prayers during class time.

Religious Education Advisory Board
