Confirmation: Sacrament of Initiation

Confirmation is an important Sacrament of Initiation.  The sacrament confirms what took place in Baptism and Eucharist.  Contemporary practice concerning the Sacrament of Confirmation varies throughout the United States.  The sacrament, for many, becomes a celebration of the young person's maturity in life and within the Church.  The young person is called on to express commitment to the Catholic Faith and to reaffirm the promises of Baptism.

To grow in faith is a lifelong process.  Therefore, faith development and education should continue even after the reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.  Parents are reminded of their important role in fostering a religious attitude by their own values and religious practices and encouragement of their children.
